Hundreds of volunteers help with the day to day operations of Thrift on Kent. We’re always looking for volunteers to receive donations, sort/price items, help on the truck, and to be the face of Thrift on Kent by working with our customers. If you have a few hours a week or several days a month, please call or email us for details. We always appreciate volunteers with specific knowledge and talents to enhance our shop and donations.

Jesse on Kent: My Summer at the Thrift Shop 18 June 2014

June 18, 2014

Hello and welcome to the first edition of our new summer series, Jesse on Kent. My name is Jesse, (what a shocker, right?) and I am a weekly volunteer at the new MCC Thrift on Kent store in Kitchener. Over the course of the summer I will be sharing my thoughts and experiences of volunteering at Thrift on Kent. As a young adult who just finished my first year in Psychology at the University of Waterloo, other readers may sympathize

with me in knowing that finding summer work as a student is not always an easy thing to do. So after unsuccessfully finding consistent employment for the summer, the question was what am I going to do with my free time? Growing up attending a Mennonite church in the area, I was very familiar with Mennonite Central Committee and the work they do for relief, development and peace in the name of Christ. So naturally, volunteering at a local MCC thrift store seemed like an obvious opportunity to give back to the community while staying busy and getting experience in a great workplace setting. So please join me this summer to learn more about what volunteering at Kent is all about and remember to keep calm and thrift on.
