Hundreds of volunteers help with the day to day operations of Thrift on Kent. We’re always looking for volunteers to receive donations, sort/price items, help on the truck, and to be the face of Thrift on Kent by working with our customers. If you have a few hours a week or several days a month, please call or email us for details. We always appreciate volunteers with specific knowledge and talents to enhance our shop and donations.

We are in need of two new Board Members for Thrift on Kent - a Youth Representative and a Church Connections member.  The K-W Mennonite Central Committee Thrift Shop Board is the governing body for Thrift on Kent.  Join this exciting team, here are all the details.

Role Description for the Church Connections Board Member:

The K-W MCC Thrift Shop Board is the governing body for Thrift on Kent. Thrift on Kent supports the mission of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) by generating revenue while following the MCC vision, purpose and principles.

The Board is looking for members who have a passion for the mission of MCC and for thrift, and who can provide leadership, dedication, and guidance to the Thrift on Kent management teams. Members will analyze strategy, make thoughtful, insightful decisions while taking initiative to proactively support and guide the Shop to continuing success. For this specific position, the Board seeks someone with strong connections to the church constituency in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.

The Board meets approximately 12 times annually, with meeting preparation and role-specific duties between. Members are volunteers on 3-year terms, to a maximum of 6 consecutive years. The Board is ultimately accountable to MCC Ontario for the operation of Thrift on Kent.

Joining the Board provides an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Join a community passionate about people while enhancing your knowledge and experience. Thrift Shops in Ontario generate over 30% of MCCO income. Additionally, Thrift cares for people and the environment through the committed sharing of our gifts and the responsible use and reuse of resources. Make a difference, while remaining local, through becoming a volunteer Board member.

Specific Notes and Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will have      strong connections to the church constituency in the Kitchener-Waterloo      area.
  • Expertise with volunteer      management and recruitment are also an asset.
