The New Year is nearly here.

Let me present some ideas for a 365-Day Project which may improve your creativity, your relationships and your outlook for 2015!

For the next year do one of these to increase your creativity:

  • Sketch a picture every day.
  • Make a painting or at least paint every day.
  • Make something creative daily.
  • Take a picture every day.
  • Write 500 words of your novel every day.
  • Write a daily poem.

OR try a combination of these creative outlets…. for the first 3 months of the year paint every day. For the following 3 months sketch every day, then write every day and end the year off with knitting, crocheting or crafting something every day. Imagine how much more creative you will be by 2016!

Here are some ideas to improve your relationships with people:

  • Each day write something positive about your spouse, partner and/or child. Present these to the person at the end of the year.
  • Connect with someone every day. Visit, write, call, email or text someone daily. Make a list of people you want to reconnect with and start from there. Stretch yourself and include strangers, simply engage someone new in conversation.
  • Do a daily kind deed for people you know and those you don’t.
  • Read a story to your child every day.

These last ideas are more introspective and for some people these may be more difficult to follow through with, as too few of us take time for ourselves.

Indulge in ‘me’ time by:

  • Keeping a gratitude journal and writing down 3 things that you’re grateful for every day.
  • Go for a 20 minute walk every day. Rain, shine or snow, let nothing stop you.
  • Learn something new each day. Learn a new word, watch a TEDx video or a documentary…. Just learn!
  • Take 15 minutes every day and meditate. Nothing too ‘out there’, just sit quietly with no distractions in a quiet place and let your mind and body rest.
  • Learn a new skill and actively improve upon that skill daily.

This upcoming year can be a year of change.

It WILL BE a year of change.

A year from now where will you be? Are you ready to steer your year where you want to go or will you just let another year float by? Actively live your life!

Get to know the people around you, shop closer to home, do with less and make your year count!

We're celebrating Christmas shopping the best way we know how.... with the 12 Days of Thrift!

Starting December 11th, each day we will be offering a different special and or event.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We are celebrating one year of being open here at 50 Kent.  It's been a year full of donations, countless volunteer hours and dedicated shoppers.

We really couldn't have done it without YOU!  The proceeds of the shop have helped people in our community and around the world.

Please drop by Thrift on Kent Saturday November 1st for a piece of cake, the wrap up of our first ever sealed bid auction (closes Saturday at Noon) and a couple of surprises.

We are incredibly blessed to have 3 talented musicians who have volunteered their time to entertain our shoppers this Friday evening between 8 and 10pm.

Chris Erb is a local musician who is blessing us with his talents...

Joelle Ritsema is bringing her folk singing to the shop...

and Jontue Elan will entice us with her jazz stylings.

Hopefully you've made plans to attend, as this will be the best shopping night of the year for the young and young at heart.

Everyone is welcome to shop during our Teen Shopping Night, however the environment will be more energized and a little louder than usual.

Thrift on Kent will be open to the public between 9am and 7pm on Friday Sept. 19.  The shop will be closed for one hour (7pm - 8pm) to prepare for our teens.

Get your friends together and come to get your thrift on from 8pm - 10pm!

One of the many benefits of sharing our space with Mennonite Central Committee's Material Resources is the ongoing quilt knotting which takes place in our store front.

Mark Friday September 19th on your calendars!  From 8pm until 10pm teens and young adults will enjoy an evening of thrift shopping all to themselves.  Music, refreshments, special discounts and more will be served up for those in attendance.  The shop will be transformed into an evening of shopping geared toward our young fashionistas, artists and trendsetters.

Don't miss this unique thrift shopping experience and remember to bring along your friends.
