We do have furniture pick up service available. Space is limited.
We are pleased to accept quality, clean items during our donation hours. . Drop them off at our drive through at the back of Thrift on Kent or for large furniture items please call to arrange a pick-up date. You can save our volunteers time if you have your donations pre-sorted into like items (eg. shoes in one bag/box, clothing in another etc.). Due to weather and vandalism, we thank you for not leaving donations outside of our donation hours.
Here’s a list of what we do accept:
We do not accept (due to health regulations and/or disposal fees):
We value your donations and the stories those items hold. To make use of your donations we ask that you not drop them off after hours.
Unfortunately, when this happens, many of the items are taken, destroyed or damaged by people and weather.
Thank you for your understanding!
The second hand resale market is a very competitive industry. More and more FOR profit businesses and charities are getting on board. It's important for you, our valued customers and donors to understand the difference.
As a charity we rely solely on donated goods. We do not purchase liquidated items or used items. We are also predominantly a volunteer run thrift shop. Compared to the number of our volunteers (around 300), our paid staff is but a few.
All of our proceeds, after expenses, go to Mennonite Central Committee Ontario for their relief, development and peace work they do here at home, in our communities and around the world.
To say we appreciate the generosity of our donors and volunteers is an understatement and indeed we could not operate our thrift shop without you.
We also deeply appreciate the ongoing support of our local community and shoppers. We value the ways that we can partner with local agencies to meet the needs of individuals and families, keep items out of the Regional landfill and to enrich our community.
Thank you for choosing to make a difference in the lives of others by shopping, donating and volunteering with us.
You've been keeping us exceptionally busy this year with furniture pick-ups... thank you!
Our volunteers and truck go out Tuesdays and Thursdays to pick up furniture. We have very well organized donors who have been booking well in advance this fall. So, if you're planning a move, getting new furniture or are tired of that piece of furniture you keep bumping into, please call us 3 to 4 weeks in advance to ensure a booking.
Just a reminder, we pick up quality furniture pieces from your home which are in good, saleable condition. Unfortunately, we don't have the appropriate space, zoning or volunteers to fix or do a heavy cleaning of furniture. Therefore, we ask that upholstered furniture not have any rips or heavy stains and comes from a smoke free, pet free home. Some other items we don't pick up/sell are: large appliances, large televisions and wall units (unless they are made of SOLID wood).
We ask that you drop off all household articles to the shop at 50 Kent Ave., Kitchener. Due to the truck's schedule, furniture is jam packed in the truck, which does not allow for household items and clothing to be picked up.
Once again, thank you for allowing us to resell your furniture, keeping it out of the landfill and helping us to help others.
Yard Sale Season is in full swing! After a day in the sun, haggling over dishes, clothes and treasures, we often see tired donors dropping off their yard sale left overs at our donation doors. As a thrift shop, we really appreciate quality items which have been overlooked at your yard sale. However, we are not able to accept everything.
We are fortunate to have donors who trust us to honour their donations in the best way possible. We appreciate what's handed to us at the back door and want to get the most for it, enabling us to pass the proceeds on to Mennonite Central Committee's programs.
A great example of some of the treasures we receive is this donated 1956 Gibson Sunburst Electric Guitar in very good condition. It currently sits in our Silent Auction where we hope to garner hundreds of dollars for MCC programs. If you have treasures to pass along, please consider dropping them off to us.
And if you'd like to place a bid, drop by Thrift On Kent before this beauty is gone to the highest bidder.
